Open a document
1) Select the 'File' menu and select 'Open...'. (The Open dialog box appears.)
2) If the document is listed in the Filename list box, do the following:
a) Select the desired document.
b) Choose the 'Open' button. (The document opens in a new window.)
3) If the document is NOT listed in the Filename list box, do the following:
a) Make sure the correct directory is listed:
1] Check the directory name in the 'Look in' drop-down list box.
2] If Word is searching the wrong directory, choose the down arrow on the drop-down list box.
3] Select the desired directory. (The filenames for that directory are listed in the File names list box.)
4] Select the document.
5] Choose the 'Open' button. (The document opens in a new window.)
b) Make sure the 'Files of type' list box is searching for 'All Files' or 'Word Documents':
1] If Word is not searching for 'All Files' or 'Word Documents', select the down arrow in the 'Files of Type' drop-down list box.
2] Do one of the following:
a] Select 'All Files' from the 'Files of type' drop-down list box.
b] Select 'Word Documents' 'Files of type' drop-down list box.
4) If the document has not been found, conduct a search:
a) Enter the document name in the 'File Name' text box.
b) (Optional) If the correct directory is known, enter it in the 'Text or Property' text box.
c) (Optional) If day/date of the document revision is known, select the day/date from the 'Last Modified' drop-down list box.
d) Choose the 'Find Now' button. (If the document is found, it appears in the File name list box, and the number of files found appears at the bottom of the Open dialog box. If the document is not found, the File name list box is blank and '0 file(s) found.' appears at the bottom of the Open dialog box.)
